From homemade laundry soap to solar-powered phone chargers, the projects in this collection are created from how-to articles at Instructables.com. Projects are divided by general category, but the lack of any index is problematic. Photos are direct from the website and vary greatly in quality. Instructions for some projects are condensed, and complicated processes cannot be explained in a way that will allow them to be accomplished safely or satisfactorily. In addition, the usefulness of some articles is highly questionable—underwater pumpkin carving, really?
VERDICT It is a far stretch labeling the contributors to this volume as experts, and this collection is a mixed bag. Although there are a number of interesting projects, they are superficially covered. A marginal purchase
