In 2180, Lieutenant Selene Genji watches as Earth is destroyed by a xenophobic cult who are so certain that their home world must be purged of alien influences—particularly genetically modified human-alien alloys like Genji—that they have nuked the planet in order to “save” it. The Earth’s death warps space and time to send Genji back to 2140, just before First Contact. Now she has a chance to save her world from utter destruction, if she can convince one good officer to believe her and not the epic cover-up perpetrated by his superiors, who are hell-bent on getting both of them killed before the novel is through. Readers looking for a way into the oeuvre of the popular Campbell (Implacable) get a terrific entry point with this series launch, while his fans will find many familiar themes, as will SF readers familiar with the Star Trek universe.
