Hollins’s (cofounder, Cultures Connecting; Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) book provides a roadmap for equity leaders to manage collective change towards racial justice within an organization. The book begins with a focus on the work an equity leader must do first, before developing a program that supports diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB). This can be a difficult process, and Hollins is mindful about the toll this work can have on an individual; thus, she ends the book with a section dedicated to the value of self-care. The heart of the book features appropriate frameworks for discussing racial justice within a company. For those readers who have already started the process, Hollins offers a section that examines the different stages of multicultural development. This book picks up where many workshops end and offers a plan for sustained DEIB work.
VERDICT Containing important strategies for leaders who are making long-term efforts to dismantle their own institutional racism, this is highly recommended.
