DEBUT Kawaii, meaning cute in Japanese, often refers to the culture of cuteness. Kawaii crafting is the creation of small, cute, happy-faced items out of a variety of crafting materials. In his book, YouTuber Lee shares his kawaii crafts with detailed instructions on how he creates them. His inspiration is both animate and inanimate objects. He uses polymer clay, resins, and molds to complete each project. Lee includes clear directions on the use of U.V. resins, two-part resins, silicone molds, and polymer clay. He details the way to use resins, how to make one’s own silicone molds, and how to complete the project in conjunction with polymer clay. There are 25 individual projects with themes of nature, marine life, animals, electronics, and food. A supply list is included under each project with detailed written and photographed step-by-step instructions. A resource list supplies information for sources for materials and access to his social media under the name of @polymomotea.
VERDICT An excellent instructional book for those pursuing kawaii crafts. The use of resins makes it a better choice for adults but also good for children with adult supervision.
