Fort Worth police officer Megan Luz, with K-9 partner, Brigit, has ambitions of making detective, yet when she arrives at a murder scene, she loses her breakfast quickly. Still, Det. Audrey Jackson is willing to work with Luz as the investigation unfolds. In between finding a new place to live that will accept her canine helper, dating a fireman, and assisting Jackson, life is rather full for Luz. When a tornado hits Fort Worth, and she is confronted by an armed gang of teenagers, her situation gets even more complex.
VERDICT Kelly's sassy third installment (after Paw and Order) is another lighthearted, engaging adventure. Like Spencer Quinn's canine narrator Chet, the reader hears from Brigit, which adds to the fun. A strong suggestion for fans of Susan Conant's dog mysteries. Readers who feel the loss of Lee Martin's "Fort Worth" police series featuring Deb Ralston or who are devoted to Susan McBride's "Texas Deb" books will also be thrilled.
