Jessica Elisa Boyd narrates Ellis’s debut contemporary romance novel with a heist twist. After losing her most consistent source of income, Cat has hit rock bottom. At least she can rely on her pickpocketing skills to make ends meet while searching for a legitimate form of work. When her posh college bestie announces her impending marriage into one of the wealthiest families in the UK, she asks Cat to be a bridesmaid. Looming expenses of being part of this wedding coupled with the rich entitlement portrayed by the rest of the bridal party has Cat developing an unconventional solution. With the help of a fellow grifter, she will steal the bride’s priceless antique engagement ring. The acquaintances just need to convince everyone they are a couple. Boyd’s lively narration keeps the story moving. With her skills at performing a multitude of accents, she captures the personalities of all the characters, seamlessly switching between each one. Her performance adds another level of depth to the characters.
VERDICT While not an essential addition to collections, Boyd’s narration entertains.
