Middle of the Rainbow

This is a story of longevity. Both the author’s acting career and her marriage (to actor William Daniels) have lasted more than 70 years, and she is 93. It is also a memoir about surviving sexual assault. Bartlett Daniels endured childhood sexual abuse, and, in 1957, she was raped by a fellow cast member on the daytime TV soap opera Love of Life. The personal and professional sides of her life receive equal billing in this honest, compelling narrative. The author studied with and worked for Lee Strasberg on stage. Her television credits are extensive and include long-running roles on Little House on the Prairie and St. Elsewhere (for which she won two Emmy Awards). She also writes of her recent appearances on General Hospital, Grey’s Anatomy, Parks and Recreation, and Better Call Saul. On the personal side, she writes about a marriage that survived infidelities and the loss of a child, her joy in becoming the mother of two adopted sons, and her sexual exploration and development.
