Mystery author Jessica Fletcher is finishing her latest book when her cousin, British actress Emma Macgill, calls. Emma is heading for Edmonton, Canada, to appear in the last musical revue of international entertainer Derek Braverman and wants Jessica to attend. It doesn’t take much to round up Dr. Seth Hazlitt, Sheriff Mort Metzger, and Mort’s wife, Maureen. The two men are long-time fans of Braverman’s movies, and everyone is excited for a vacation. But of course, it’s never a vacation for Jessica. Someone at the hotel recognizes her as best-selling author J.B. Fletcher and arranges a book signing without her consent. Adding to the tension, two fans stalk her, seeking autographs and attention. The foursome find time to tour Edmonton, but their backstage tour of the theater ends when a stagehand is found murdered. Together with Maureen and Emma, Jessica launches a behind-the-scenes investigation. The trio discover that the victim played with women’s emotions and blackmailed some of the men in the show. It seems that everyone except the four Americans might have a reason to want him dead.
VERDICT Although the mystery is slight, the sequel to Murder, She Wrote: Fit for Murder will appeal to fans of the cozy series who enjoy the reappearance of familiar characters.
