Ewan Cameron, Laird Carnach, comes to London at the request of his father to patch up relations with his grandfather, the Duke of Lotheil. Missing the beauty of his Scottish home, Ewan is nonetheless intrigued by his Sassenach neighbor Lily Farthingale. The English wench is more bookish than beautiful, more concerned with her research on swamp baboons than on a romance with a Highlander who is counting the days until he can get back to his beloved Scotland. When Lily is attacked, and Ewan is knifed, the two team up to solve the mystery of the danger that seems to follow them wherever they go. Then Lily is kidnapped by her one-time friend Lord Ashton. Will Ewan find his love in time? Will Lily tame this hunky Highlander?
VERDICT This historical romance from debut novelist Platt is a perfect love story, especially for those who enjoy romances with a strong, handsome Scotsman! Equally satisfying is the strong-minded Lily, who fights for inclusion into the Royal Society and refuses to be the vapid victim demanded of her by London in the early 1800s. Readers will enjoy the stories of the Farthingale brood, which will continue with The Duke I'm Going To Marry.
