This delightfully amusing Regency romance tells the tale of Lady Megan McNabb, the daughter of a Scottish earl and determined to marry a fellow Scot, and Lord Christopher (Kit) Linwood, the English Earl of Rossington, who is determined not to marry anyone. Following all the tropes of a well-written Regency romance, poor Megan has a managing mama with more than a whiff of Mrs. Bennet about her; she is determined that her eldest daughter will snag this wealthy Englishman who has come to Glen Dorian on a treasure hunt. Megan is equally determined she will not marry and that Linwood will not desecrate the haunted glen, site of a family curse. It's hatred at first sight, with a great deal of situational humor and enjoyable repartee. The two protagonists behave appallingly toward each other initially but eventually thaw, of course, as one does. Flashbacks to the tragic cause of the curse, involving relatives of Megan and Linwood, add character and interest.
VERDICT Treasure can be more than gems and gold, as the two lovers discover by the end of this thoroughly enjoyable Regency from Cornwall (Once Upon a Highland Summer).
