Bennett adds to the multi-author “Texas Cattleman’s Club: Ranchers and Rivals” series (after
Cinderella Masquerade by LaQuette) with her enemies-to-lovers tale. Faced with an unexpected pregnancy, Morgan and Ryan are bound together whether they like it or not. Bennett creates compelling characters and allows both Morgan and Ryan to change and reflect on the reasons they want to be together throughout the book. She adds depth to what could be a standard opposites-attract story with her strong character work. The romance benefits from lacking dramatic twists, instead deriving plot and connection from two characters honestly getting to know each other beyond the pregnancy that binds them.
VERDICT Bennett weaves together plot threads from previous books in the series in an organic way, setting up for the concluding book in this series while still providing a satisfying stand-alone story with characters who are not directly involved in the drama.
