In 2004, a group of well-known authors (including Orson Scott Card, Tobias Wolff, and Marilyn Nelson) received funding from the National Endowment for the Arts to conduct writing workshops for soldiers serving in Afghanistan and Iraq. This broad range of short, personal war and military family narratives is the result.
