Millions of people worldwide begin reanimating after death, hungry for the flesh of the living. With no cure for their condition, humanity spirals into worldwide chaos as zombie herds containing as many as a million of the creatures walk the land in a mindless daze. However, the zombie story line is little more than background noise, giving way to long philosophical diatribes about the ethical dilemmas some characters face. Also, contradicting details leave readers with a vague sense of time and distance in the setting. Narrator Todd McLaren fails to breathe interest into this poorly written story. Although he uses multiple character voices, his inflections for the female characters fail, and his Southern twang is mediocre at best. However, the four bonus tales at the end are executed well and hold far more interest than the main story.
VERDICT Fails to impress. There are many more zombie apocalyptic tales with richer storytelling than this one provides.
