Eden brings together characters from two series (“Trouble for Hire” and “Wilde Ways”) in this crossover volume. Criminal defense attorney Aspen Gray knows the shady side of the law and the people who hide there. Unfortunately, one of these characters—whom Aspen thought was dead—has decided it’s time for Aspen to play by their rules. Luckily, Aspen’s best friend from college, Ben Wilde, and his brother Eric, own a security company and they consider Aspen family. To defend against Aspen’s stalker, the Wildes line up a bodyguard for her, Gideon Ranier, who will pretend to be her boyfriend; but when Aspen arrives to meet him, she feels he’s all wrong for the job. He’s too intense, too big, too muscular, too…everything. She’s sure no one—least of all her stalker—will believe that Gideon isn’t a bodyguard, so Aspen plans to use Gideon as a stalking horse and handle this problem herself.
VERDICT Eden’s strength as a novelist is making each book stand on its own as an individual read, but they’re even better when the streams of her series cross. Highly recommended for collections where the romantic suspense works of Nora Roberts and Jayne Ann Krentz are popular.
