The editors of the cult running magazine
Like the Wind have pulled together an unusual trail running/travel guide: many of the book’s routes are multi-day adventures, and most of the trails are in remote, sometimes mountainous, wilderness. Among the 16 scenic trails are routes through the Dolomites, the Pyrenees, Swedish Lapland, and Sedona and the White Mountains in the U.S., each described by a different runner and followed by a list of practical information (accommodations; weather conditions; where to stop for food; the best months to run the trail). The text reads a bit like a travel magazine, with little guidance on trail running itself, and more than half of the book is devoted to breathtaking photographs of the rugged landscapes. It could appeal equally to runners looking for new places to run and explore and to armchair adventurers seeking a vicarious wilderness experience.
VERDICT A perfect fit for public libraries with large travel sections or lots of interest in adventure travel.
