For years, a sadistic killer has pursued his sick obsession, flying under the radar using multiple disguises and meticulously leaving no clues except for gruesome letters carved on his victims' bodies. His latest target, Daisy Dawson, fights back and snatches a locket from around his neck as she flees. The game now takes a bizarre spin, breathing life into a cold case and plunging Daisy into jeopardy once again. For 17 years, FBI Special Agent Gideon Reynolds has been trying to track down the elusive cult that nearly destroyed him. He never considered that his first real break would be tied to the woman his matchmaking surrogate mom wants him to meet—Daisy Dawson. Intertwined mysteries and alternating viewpoints (including the killer's) guarantee reader appeal. While there are links to Rose's

VERDICT Chilling and remarkably complex, this is a thriller that, for all its length, will keep minds sharp and nightlights burning. An excellent series start. Rose (Death Is Not Enough) lives in Florida. [See Prepub Alert 8/10/18; previewed in Kathryn Howe's "Love Changes Everything," LJ 10/15/18.]
