When his daughter Rachel’s fiancé, NYPD detective John Frankel, is accused of murdering his ex-wife Julia, retired Metropolitan Police Commander Austin Grant of Scotland Yard flies to New York to investigate. John says he found Julia shot to death in his locked apartment; three years earlier, she left him for Pablo Suarez and moved to Hawai‘i. John is reluctant to tell anyone why he’s not surprised that his ex was in New York. Rachel has only known John for six months, but she knows he isn’t a killer, so she and her father fly to Hawai‘i to find Pablo. They learn that Pablo is missing, his business is closed, and he owes money to a bookmaker. Meanwhile, John’s appearance at yet another murder scene doesn’t help his case. Although Rachel wonders if she’ll ever marry the man she loves, she and her father are determined to follow the trail from New York to Hawai‘i and Maine as they search for the killer.
