Soaked in Bleach: A Documentary About the Death of Kurt Cobain

First-time director Statler here presents private investigator Tom Grant's version of events and circumstances surrounding the 1994 death of Nirvana front man and rock icon Kurt Cobain, which was officially declared a suicide but has been the focus of 20 years of speculation as to whether he was murdered. Statler uses a mix of well-preserved and compelling audiotape footage from Grant's phone conversations with Cobain's widow, Courtney Love, and others; overlong and overacted faux film noir dramatic reenactments based on Grant's perspective; and new interviews with Grant, forensics experts, and Cobain character witnesses to argue, sometimes convincingly, that police records don't tell the whole or even the true story of his death. Grant and others cite details such as the amount of drugs in Cobain's system, the position of the gun, where the bullet shell landed, the arguable authenticity of the purported suicide note, and Love's behavior and alleged motivations as reasons for reopening the case.
