After Freya Lockwood inherits her uncle’s antiques shop, she and her Aunt Carole hope to continue the business. Freya also wants to return stolen antiquities to their rightful owners. She soon has her first case. A dead body has been found behind a museum; at the same time, a painting has gone missing from the collection. A docent from the small museum asks for Freya’s help because the police seem only to be investigating the murder and not the painting’s disappearance. Searching for the artwork leads Freya and Aunt Carole to an antiques-themed luxury cruise, where Freya will lecture as an expert. Freya knows she’s on the right track when she spots the missing painting and other antiques in a closely guarded gallery on the ship. They also uncover rumors about the Collector, a powerful dealer in stolen antiques. What the pair don’t realize is that they’re in way over their heads on a cruise ship filled with black-market dealers and thieves. To the despair of an FBI agent, Freya and Carole muddle through and endanger themselves, but an unlikely ally will spring a deadly trap to catch everyone involved.
VERDICT Miller’s sequel to The Antique Hunter’s Guide to Murder is a fast-paced, fun caper that reveals the author’s extensive knowledge of antiques.
