The Bakeshop at Pumpkin & Spice

Halloween in Moonbright, ME, means another anthology brimming with costumes, cookies, love, and a pinch of magic from the Bellaluna Bakeshop. In Kauffman’s “Sweet Magic,” Abriana Bellaluna can bake elaborate confections, but she has yet to master the perfect cookie—the one dusted with magic to give potential couples a love boost. When Caleb Dimitriou comes to town to fill in for a family member on vacation, the two might need their own boost to get beyond their many obstacles. Meanwhile, in Allyson Charles’s “Love Spells Disaster,” Cassandra Hie knows what she wants: the perfect haunted house and a stable, loyal partner at her side. Handyman Chip Gneiss doesn’t fit the bill on first look, but he’s prepared to prove her wrong by helping to build the haunted house of her dreams. Across town in the mayor’s office, planning for the annual Halloween parade has just fallen into the lap of Mayor Jack Hanson and is nearing chaos. When he runs into Lara Shaw at Bellaluna’s, having the absolute worst day, he thinks she might make an excellent event coordinator. The close proximity, though, makes it clear there might be more in store for these two in Kate Angell’s “Sweet on You.”
