The Dogist: Photographic Encounters with 1,000 Dogs

Since October 2013, Friedman's photo blog, The Dogist, has documented the canine citizens of New York City in a popular "street style" format. Pictures include the dogs' names, breeds, and sometimes their ages and locations (when those are outside of New York). Photographs are grouped thematically—"Sassy," "Shaking Paws," "Ears," "Bulldogs," "Puppies"—by physical feature, breed, activity, etc. Amid the sharp dressers, show dogs, and rare breeds, Friedman highlights special cases: the "Vicktory dogs" who now live at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Utah; and service dog Phil, who goes by "Juno" in public to avoid distraction. While enjoying a large social media audience, Friedman also applies his background in brand strategy to help dogs in need. Through his "Give a Dog a Bone" program, people can donate a chew bone to a dog in a shelter; Friedman will then feature the animal, with adoption information, on his blog.
