The Encyclopedia of HIV and AIDS

The author's intent here is to give readers an understanding of the nature of, and conditions related to, HIV and AIDS since their discovery 30 years ago. Coverage includes definitions of AIDS and HIV; information on medications used to treat the conditions—including side effects, dosage, and drug interactions; and related medical conditions. Further research is supported by the inclusion of a bibliography for each essay. The appendixes include frequently used abbreviations, lists of online resources, and U.S. and global HIV and AIDS statistics. For example, tables offer information on reported AIDS cases and annual rates for metropolitan areas for 2006 and 2007 for the United States and Puerto Rico, and diagnosed cases of HIV infection by area of residence for 2007 for 47 states, the District of Columbia, and five U.S. dependencies.
