The latest edition of this classic title continues to be an easily readable resource for early researchers. The authors have structurally revised and added new content. For example, this edition’s updates feature information about diverse epistemologies and new technologies, such as generative artificial intelligence. The book’s purpose is to give practical guidance on essential research skills, such as identifying a research question and assessing source credibility. This edition certainly achieves that. To help readers grasp and retain the information, the book presents details and tidbits in a logical progression. Chapters are designed to allow researchers to dip into relevant subjects as they need them, and each chapter includes a “Quick Tips” section for easy reference. This book would certainly benefit students in high school and college, but it’s also a useful quick reference for more experienced researchers.
VERDICT This reference guide is an accessible addition to any undergraduate reading list, but it will be particularly useful for social sciences students. It is well-written, clearly structured, and easy to read and use.
