The Resistance Girl

Robotham explores the story of ordinary citizens and Resistance fighters in Norway during World War II in her fifth novel (following The Girl Behind the Wall). Rumi, the daughter of a fisherman, has already suffered a great loss due to the war. Injured in battle, Jens, who was born and raised in England but is also Norwegian, has volunteered to be a liaison to the Resistance movement. In Nazi-occupied Norway, he is at constant risk. After a rocky start, Jens and Rumi become friends as they deliver refugees to the “Shetland Bus,” a boat that shuttles from Norway’s coast to Scotland’s Shetland Islands. Some of those saved are women being exploited by the Nazis to create a master race of Aryan children. Over five years, the story follows these everyday characters as they bravely face fears and fight for Norway.
