Bostwick (Between Heaven and Texas) departs from her "Cobbled Court Quilts" series to tell the story of the Toomey sisters, one mentally challenged after an accident and the other who fled their Wisconsin hometown for life as a political operative. Lucy Toomey hasn't been back in eight years, since her parents died. She's on the brink of career success, but then her sister, Alice, dies, and the terms of Alice's will force Lucy to return to Nilson's Bay. While Alice made a happy life there, Lucy has only bitterness. She finally faces her past, her memories, and the reasons that drove her away. Although the ending seems a bit rushed and a secret in Alice's life is a little forced, the author succeeds with a story of a woman who finds she can return home and find happiness.
VERDICT Despite the way the ending is all neatly tied up, readers who enjoy novels about family relationships, women who support each other emotionally, or small, tight-knit communities will appreciate Bostwick's latest effort. It's definitely recommended for those who read and enjoy her "Cobbled Court" books.
