While on a solo trip to Budapest, Mara Williams, a big believer in astrology and psychics, visits a psychic who tells her that she will soon meet the man of her dreams. When the psychic goes into labor, Mara watches the shop, and in walks a man who fits the description perfectly. Impersonating the psychic, Mara tells him he will meet the love of his life in a pub in Broadgate in three months. Mara returns home, determined to turn herself into her true love’s perfect woman, but matters are complicated by her feelings for her new roommate. Narrated by Anna Gilthorpe, Dent’s (
The Summer Job) adult debut is a light and fluffy summer romance that will keep listeners engaged and have them hoping that Mara will find her happy ending. Gilthorpe’s depiction of Mara as somewhat immature, but spunky, rings true. As a bonus, Dent’s descriptions of the various locations in this story—especially Budapest—are lush and add to the story.
VERDICT Although this trope-filled romance occasionally strains credulity, listeners will find much to love. Recommend to fans of Emily Henry, Christina Lauren, and Abbi Waxman.
