The goal of this series—which also covers decades from the 1930s through the 1990s—is to "help students understand the most important aspects of each decade's history." Rollyson (journalism, Baruch Coll., CUNY) offers 675 articles on topics, people, and events. Mostly focusing on U.S. topics but including some Canadian history, the signed articles range from one to six pages in length, although the average is about a page, and are accompanied by suggestions for further reading and, sometimes, a black-and-white photo. Of particular note is Salem's purchasing policy with this (and other) series: buying the print set grants access to the online version. The online material is attractively presented and searchable alongside prior purchases from the Salem History range, and this greatly extends the value of the set and makes it stand out among other U.S. history chronologies and other material on the 1920s. This series is the most popular chronology of U.S. history in this reviewer's library; the 1920s set in particular is heavily used when U.S. history students are looking for a research topic.
VERDICT Delightful and appropriate for public, school, and academic libraries.
