Horn and Mayer, coauthors of
The Ultimate Vegan Barbeque, apply their approach to breakfast, and in doing so, have taken on the meal most easily skipped for the sake of extra sleep and beginning the morning commute. The authors design a plan to value the morning and savor a well-made but not necessarily time-consuming meal. Beyond smoothies, there are grain and bread recipes with sweet and savory spreads, the requisite tofu scramble, and a "Full English Breakfast," with beans, tomatoes, and vegan sausage and bacon. Recipes include neither calorie count nor nutrients, since the authors believe this information is in flux. Instead, meals are identified as gluten, sugar and/or soy free. VERDICT In this follow-up to their popular first book, Horn and Mayer give ample reasons to make breakfast the meal that starts the day.
