After being locked out of her best friend’s wedding ceremony, Ensley James runs into her childhood crush, Drew Daniels. They are brought together by shared confessions, and, after a heated moment is interrupted, they keep in touch and Ensley decides to help Drew as a receptionist at his veterinary practice. Drew is pretty set in his ways with dating, but he agrees to break his one-date rule with Ensley. As their relationship turns into something more than casual, Drew learns that Ensley has been keeping an important secret from him. But Drew has also been keeping secrets of his own, and they’ll have to overcome their childhood traumas to save their relationship. This novel has some laugh-out-loud moments, but some of the backstories need more detail in order to better understand Ensley and Drew’s history and appreciate their new connection.
VERDICT An enjoyable rom-com from Knight (Tasty Pickle) about childhood friends suddenly reconnecting, then turning into something much more substantial. Recommend to fans of Stephanie Rose.
