Amateur sleuth and tea brewer Vera is back in the hilarious, heartwarming follow-up to
Vera Wong’s Unsolicited Advice for Murderers. After solving the murder of a man in her teahouse and seeing her son Tilly in a relationship with Officer Selena Gray, Vera is mostly content. Soon, she’s longing for another mystery to shake up her routine. When she falls victim to a phone scam, Vera reports it to the police, where she bumps into Millie, who’s distraught over a friend who disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Through some dedicated sleuthing, Vera also discovers that Millie’s friend used a false name to hide his identity as a popular influencer. Using comfort food, tea, and her handy notebook, Vera sets out to solve another crime and help out her (hopefully) future daughter-in-law, Officer Gray, at the same time. Full of the same heart and humor that made the first Vera Wong novel a hit, and featuring a strong cast of characters, this novel has, at times, a more serious tone than Vera’s first adventure, but it is tempered with levity throughout.
VERDICT Fans of Vera Wong will be delighted to experience more laugh-out-loud funny moments with the dedicated amateur sleuth and her found family.
