Aimed at people who haven’t had a good relationship or experience with exercising, this guide offers a reassuring message that no one should feel guilty about or pressured to exercise. Former personal trainer Kurchak (I Overcame My Autism and All I Got Was This Lousy Anxiety Disorder) makes the point, however, that exercise is excellent for both physical and mental health. The author also notes that luckily, there are many different ways to add beneficial movement to one’s life. Sections about exercises, stretching, and weight training emphasize doing what feels comfortable. But there are no photos or drawings to illustrate any of the mentioned exercises. Still, the book encourages readers to give themselves credit for accomplishments, instead of being hard on themselves. The tone is chatty and informal, and the message is affirming.
VERDICT While some readers may draw comfort and inspiration from the message, the lack of illustrations makes this a nonessential purchase.
