Instead of chasing her dream, Cora Lewis quit college and moved home to help her grandfather Harvey run his pet store. The store means everything to him, and Cora will do anything for the man who practically raised her. But the store, Happy Paws, isn’t doing very well, and Cora is worried. When CanineKing moves in across the street, Cora is terrified that the chain store will mean the end of Happy Paws. Leo Salinger, CanineKing’s hot, uptight owner, believes there’s enough business in town for both pet stores, but an intense rivalry, with requisite prank war, ensues. When they find out that the upcoming dog show is offering a first prize of $15,000, both Cora and Leo enter. Slowly, as they train their pooches side by side, Cora begins to see Leo in a different light.
VERDICT With a believable character arc, protagonists who have great chemistry, and a good balance of humor and depth, this enemies-to-lovers romantic comedy from Collins (Love at First Spite) hits all the right notes. Recommend to fans of Rachel Lynn Solomon and Laura Moher.
