This collection of essays, part memoir, part faith devotional, and part lighthearted look at life in the Deep South, is speaker, podcast host, and storyteller Bell’s love letter to small-town living and the benefits it brings. The author, a young mother whose Christian faith is foundational, writes about her personal growth over the last number of years emerging from the trials of the pandemic, moving to a small town to be near family (but leaving another life behind), and finding footing in her faith again as she navigates additional life events most readers will relate to. As an added treat, she has a few recipes sprinkled throughout that relate to some of the stories she tells. It’s definitely a book that’s meant to provoke thought and discussion, and, more than likely, bring on a few tears. While set in Alabama, readers from other parts of the country will recognize the feel and love of a small town as well.
VERDICT A sweet and comforting read offering a little escape, aimed at a Christian audience. Recommended for general collections.
