This book by the co-owners of the metaphysical shop House of Intuition is an approachable and accessible guide to rituals. Part personal storytelling, part brand-building, the book describes the concepts of intention, intuition, gratitude, and patience, and their manifestation in practices that involve altars, candles, oils, incense/resin, crystals, astrology, days of the week, phases of the moon, colors, and numerology. Although it is didactic, it is not intended as a “cookbook” for rituals but rather a guide that puts readers in the pilot’s seat. The authors believe that “real magic is inside of us.” The book is divided into three parts: the authors’ personal stories; an exploration of their definition of magic; and finally a list of rituals. An appendix contains descriptions of various crystals, flowers, foods, and goods, also herbs and oils.
VERDICT For readers who are interested in leading more spiritually connected lives, those looking for self-empowerment, and anyone who wants a peek behind the curtain of modern magical practices with a handy guide to mostly accessible ingredients. Readers who are uninterested in lengthy personal backgrounds might skip past the first section; the latter two sections are more informative.
