OrangeReviewStarStand-up comedian Gaffigan (Dad Is Fat) is well known for (among other things) his love of Hot Pockets and all other forms of delicious-but-bad-for-you food. So it is fitting that his second book is a hilarious exploration of his relationship with food. Gaffigan masterfully pokes fun at himself, his weight, and his obsession with eating. His topics include a food-based map of the United States (I'm writing from "BBQland"), his distrust of shellfish (underwater bugs), and his love of meat (bacon, the candy of meat!). The witty commentary is peppered with jokes and funny stories that will have listeners smiling throughout and occasionally laughing out loud. Gaffigan's narration is perfectly timed and brings his book to life; he flawlessly blurs the line between stand-up comedy and humorous essay. VERDICT This audiobook will have wide appeal. Fans of food, comedy, and travel writing will find plenty of warm-hearted nostalgia mixed with playful anecdotes of meals enjoyed around the United States and the world.—Cliff Landis, Georgia State Univ.
