Recent news from the Digital Public Library of America, the National Endowment for the Arts, Michigan's Kent District Library, and more

Consortium, an Ingram Publisher Services LLC brand, welcomed five new companies for the spring 2018 season: Dottir Press, Floris Books, Hazy Dell Press, New Europe Books, and World Editions.

The Digital Public Library of America (DPLA) has launched Open Bookshelf, a digital collection of popular books free to download. It is currently available to libraries through the DPLA Exchange and to readers via the SimplyE mobile app.

On July 5 Kent District Library (KDL), MI, debuted a new library card for active military and veterans, which will offer holders no overdue fines and free printing at all 19 branches.

The Navajo Nation Library received $190,649 in funding from the Navajo Nation Council to digitize its Oral History Collection, originally recorded in the 1960s by the Navajo Culture Center of the Office of Navajo Economic Opportunity (ONEO).

Oberlin College, OH, has renamed its main library for civil rights activist and women’s suffragist Mary Church Terrell, who graduated from the college in 1884.

The Osher family has donated a private map collection estimated at $100 million, including 450,000 maps and artifacts dating to 1475, to the Osher Map Library at the University of Southern Maine, Portland.

SirsiDynix announced the Power of Libraries Award Winners at the April Customers of SirsiDynix Users Group, Inc. (COSUGI), conference: Kenosha Public Library, WI; Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis University Library; and Enoch Pratt Free Library, Baltimore.
