Goldman's (Ring Boxing Encyclopedia and Record Book) specialized resource covers the international history of boxing. A large part of the work contains detailed match records for more than 2600 notable professional boxers of the Queensberry (i.e., gloved) era, from 1895 to today. Each entry includes dates of birth and death, place of birth, nicknames, a list of fights, and career statistics. Within the four volumes, there are six parts: boxers, registries of other personnel, world title bouts, records and champions, the organization of the sport, and boxing in history and culture. An appendix offers a time line of boxing history. A similar title is James B. Roberts and Alexander B. Skutt's The Boxing Register: International Boxing Hall of Fame Official Record Book (McBooks Pr., 2011). However, this new title provides biographical information and fight records for more than 180 boxers in the International Boxing Hall of Fame, which Roberts and Skutt's book lacks.
VERDICT Providing a wealth of boxing statistics, this resource will appeal to lay readers and scholars interested in boxing and the history of sports. Recommended for specialized reference collections.
