Stan was born as Ishtanu during the Bronze Age. Given as a tax to the king’s army, he learns that there’s life beyond his family’s sheep farm and their tiny Hittite village. After he returns, he realizes that it’s been over a year since he left, and learns that he doesn’t die. He reinvents himself regularly as his friends or family notice that he doesn’t age. Over the centuries, he finds himself immersed in some interesting episodes of history, such as the Peasant’s Revolt following the Black Death, and interacting with some key figures, like Richard Wagner. Of course, he doesn’t realize the significance of any of these experiences while in the midst of them. Generally, he becomes part of the history in the same way anyone does, by living day to day, getting by.
