Encyclopedia of Cyber Warfare

Springer (comparative military studies, chair of the Dept. of Research and Publications, Air Command and Staff Coll., AL) examines the history, capabilities, and dangers of the cyberworld. Ranging from a few paragraphs to several pages in length, the entries are clear and jargon free and include further reading. Topics vary widely, from ARPANET (the network that became the Internet) to hacktivists to malware. A supplemental guide lists individuals, organizations, and private companies mentioned in the book. Primary source excerpts from mostly government sources add little to the overall content. The list of contributors is heavy on PhD candidates, with academicians and government personnel thrown in for good measure. The bibliography is brief, and users may not be able to access the older resources (some date back to 1993). The chronology begins with 1948's founding of the RAND Corporation and ends with 2017's latest Wikileaks dump.
