In the third book of Kelly’s house-flipping mystery series (

Dead as a Door Knocker) set in Nashville, TN, carpenter Whitney Whitaker and her cousin Buck find themselves at an auction for the Music City Motor Court in a growing and popular area of town. The two win the auction and plans for the renovations begin. Whitney wants to convert the old, dilapidated hotel into a set of thriving condos. On the first day of renovation, the duo discover a squatter residing in the hotel. On the second day, Whitney’s beloved cat, Sawdust, is snooping and leads Whitney and Buck to discover the body of rising country music superstar Beckett Morgan under a pile of blankets. The new owners must assist local Nashville detective Collin Flynn in solving the murder so that they can restore the reputation of their purchase before word gets out a murder has occurred on the property.
VERDICT Readers who appreciate house-flipping television shows and country music will love this exploration of Nashville. A nosy pet and great human characters make this a worthy buy.
