High-definition aerial photographs and some close-up photography are abundant throughout this beautiful love letter to the South Fork of Long Island, including the Hamptons. Lifelong frequenters of the area, Stewart and Michaelson have created a coffee-table book that might inspire a trip to Long Island or serve as a reminder of a previous visit. This book is not meant as a full trip guide, however, it does represent the area through its images and some quick recommendations from the authors. Some local history is also sprinkled throughout to give an understanding of the South Fork beyond its views. Descriptions of and behind-the-scenes photographs from the authors’ own trips add a memoiristic feel. Sections cover places to eat, stay, and visit (including beaches) for a general feel of the region. Full addresses for photographed locations are included at the back of the book.
VERDICT New York–area libraries with larger travel sections already established will find this a beautiful addition for their patrons to browse through. This book can also be valuable for readers interested in landscape aerial photography.
