Fay Liu really wants to enjoy the historic Mount Morris home tour, but some pushy guy won’t leave her alone. Spotting fellow urban planner Oliver Huang in the crowd, she takes a chance and kisses him hello, acting as if they are a couple. Oliver quickly catches on and they have a surprisingly great day together exploring the city’s architecture. Not wanting to let go of their newfound connection, they reinvent themselves as a posh couple known as Darling and Olly. The ruse will allow them to gain access to some of the elite real estate in New York City. For both, their adventures are a much-needed beacon of hope, with Fay newly divorced, and Oliver having recently lost his job. Insecurities abound, however, as real feelings develop and Fay and Oliver have to decide if they have the courage to build a relationship that sings of home.
VERDICT Fans of HGTV will enjoy the architectural details in this funny and sweet fake-relationship novella. The short length may leave readers wanting more of these relatable, damaged, and authentic characters in desperate need of a relationship renovation.
